After using the Infinity/Comcast “self install kit” I was greeted with a surprise that definitely did not bring me joy. Comcast had somehow decided I should only view their home page, forget what I thought my own home page should be. Read more to get the fix.

This is the homepage Comcast insists I enjoy. Luckily Ryan Parman of ryanparman.com figured out what Comcast was doing and how to reclaim your homepage in Firefox. Here is the fix which worked for me. Please note the following about different browsers and what I’ve witnessed with Comcasts little sneak attack.

Opera – did not show any signs that Xfinity/Comcast installed any malware on my computer nor did their installer change the home page.

Safari – easily fixed by setting the home page back to the URL of your choice.

Chrome – easily fixed as well by going into your preferences and simply changing the home page URL.

Does anyone know if this is illegal?

Hopefully you found this article in search of online tools that can help grow your business or make more customers aware that you have an online presence. Below are just a few of the tools and services that can help you make that awareness happen and best of all are free to use.

1. Twitter – Twitter is that less annoying way to remind your customers quite frequently that you have sales, new products, services or just about anything you feel you’d like to “Tweet” about. Key benefits. Many companies might want to consider losing the subscribe and unsubscribe in favor of “follow” and “unfollow”. – Twitter

2. Yelp – Yelp can be a great way to get your business on the map and if you’re in the business of making anything edible or drinkable you’ll want to put your business on Yelp. Be forewarned that if you promise to make “The best burrito this side of Mexico” and said burrito doesn’t live up to the hype you might find that the reviews and ratings will do your business more harm than good. If your business offers stellar customer service, great food or is simply the awesomeness you have nothing to worry about. Yelp

3. Facebook – Every brand needs a Facebook Fanpage. Why we ask? Well it’s only the largest social media network in the world with enough web persuasion to shape, shift and mold the way the internet is used. That’s huge and the kind of friend you want in your circle. It’s another way to convey updates, brand news, specials, contests and much more all in one place for your customer. Facebook

4. YouTube -If your business utilizes video you’ll want to jump all over youtube and it’s specials channels for brands and businesses. YouTube

5. Foursquare – Foursquare
